Kilbeggan

Kilbeggan

Cooley distillery (1989)

Kilbeggan whiskey has been made at the Cooley distillery since 1994 and is today considered the flagship of the distillery. It used to be made at the Locke’s distillery (1757-1957), which was closed in 1957. It was then not made at all until the Cooley distillery revived it in 1994. The old Locke’s distillery in Kilbeggan is also pictured on the label, and the stated founding year refers to it. In Czech, Kilbeggan means sexton.
It is a blended whiskey containing 30% Tyrconnell malt whiskey and matures in sweet oloroso sherry casks. It is said that the whiskey is excellent for Irish coffee.
