Bushmills
(Bushmills distillery)
The Bushmills distillery has a special position among today’s Irish distilleries. It looks like a typical Scotch whisky distillery, with two pagodas in the Victorian style. It cannot be compared with the remaining three distilleries at all: Bushmills looks like a classic whisky distillery, while the others resemble industrial plants. Bottled as a single malt, it comes from old stocks of the now defunct distillery of the same name, Coleraine, which joined the Bushmills distillery in the last century.
While most distilleries state the year of their founding on their labels, the Bushmills distillery is rather vague about it. On some labels you can find the year 1608 without any explanatory sentence, so everyone will assume it is the year of founding, and on some old labels you can find the exact statement that the distillery was founded in 1784.
